patterns outside competitions and new blog:: new blog and giveaways

Thank you all for your comments on the post about children's couture. I found it interesting to read your opinions and I would like this blog we serve to discuss and learn about sewing and fashion for children.

Today I have an announcement to make.

As some you know, I like to sew for my children and for myself. I found that sewing for children is not the same as for adults. Usually does not require the same precision, or pattern matching or finish of the garments. I also noticed that when I sew for my use mostly Burda patterns, but rarely for my children. For this reason, and because I know there are only coséis blogger friends for your kids, I decided to create another blog dedicated to my sewing, and where you can follow me on my personal challenge for me all my clothes Burda patterns. It's called

also say there are three quizzes floating around that maybe you're interested:

Thank you all for your comments on the topic about designer clothing for kids. It´s interesting to read what you think, and I´d love to open this blog to discussions about home-made-fashion, sewing, couture, etc.
Today I´d like to share with you some finds and news.
One is a reminder hat there are three great giveaways still ongoing by three of my sewing fellow bloggers:

A great book on couture by Marina at

A crafting book and one of her handmade wonderful purses by Kate at http://harmonyandrosie.blogspot.com/2011/02/not-quite-spring-giveaway.html

And another (un)important announcement:
As you may know I like sewing for my kids and for myself. Sewing tiny dresses is not quite the same as adult clothes, especially when it comes to fitting issues. Finishing techniques are not the same either, at least for me, as I´m far more relaxed when I sew clothes that will be used for a few months only. You may also know that I love Burda patterns for me, but for children I prefer other brands. These two reasons plus the fact that there are readers that don´t sew for them, gave me the idea to create a new blog where I can post about MY Burda sewing only.

So, if you´d like to read about my challenge to Entire sew my wardrobe using Burda patterns, join me at:

See you there!

Meaning Of Triple H Shirt

haute couture for kids? :: Haute Couture for kids? Other magazines

Dior
That this Dior dress is sold by 285 € is something that I can not understand. Not worth it, because I believe every one is free to decide the price of your product, if not necessities, but that someone buys it.

A couture dress shop out of a French designed by one of the few couturiers who are active today, is made with exclusive fabrics of the highest quality, it takes all kinds of interlinings, linings and stabilizers, hand embroidery, hand sewn and tailored to fit the person who buys it. This client usually pays no less than 15,000 euros for a shirt haute couture and is for life, for accommodations and modifications are usually included in the price. ***
It puzzles me to see That this little dress by Dior retails for € 285. I do not Argue That We Are Free to put a price According To What we believe is the value of Our product, BUT it's Beyond My Understanding That There Are People Willing That much to pay for this dress.

As far as I know, a Haute Couture garment is made Exclusively for a client, using the finest fabrics, hand sewn and with a Guarantee for life. Why Would You Make That for a kid That Does Not Only But Also appreciate it will grow out of it in 15 minutes?
D & G € 224

the other day I was thinking that by this definition is something that suits me when I read "Haute couture for kids" thing

I did not block 1 - haute couture for kids means which makes a suit
a little body as it changes in size every 15 days?

thing I block 2 - If haute couture is much hand sewing, patterns, and as exclusive
... then ... I do !!!!! couture ¿?
*** What We Believe That I see advertised as Haute Couture for Kids is in reality expensive Ready to Wear by the best designers. Armani, D & G Dior Have now or collections for kids and babies, So There Must Be a business indeed.
D & G € 115

Although there are exceptions like ceremonial costumes that can pass from generation to generation, that of haute couture for children remain unconvinced.

Or is that what is called haute couture for children is rather Pret a Porter or Ready to Wear? Designers like Dolce & Gabbana, Chloe and Armani have launched children's fashion, haute couture sometimes called what in reality is Pret a Porter for children. In any case, here are a few examples that I do not think they are high fashion or anything, just expensive.
*** If I had the cash I Might Consider Spending Hundreds of euros on a special That occasion outfit Could Be Passed on to the next generation, like the ones I've inherited from my grandmum, But I Doubt I will ever buy these:
Burberrys Boots
€ 63

Burberrys for 63 € that will last at most 2 months if they are bitten and chuperreteadas before. Or this Pajama Dior for 80 €, which are likely to be tainted milk or worse
Dior
€ 80

What's The Difference Between Skate And Shoe Size

patterns of children, as well as Burda:: Spanish magazines kids patterns

sample my collection of Burda
Some of my beloved vintage Burda
Some friends you ask me where I get the patterns of children , and always respond to the Burda clear, from where else? Despite other magazines on newsstands what does, in my opinion, that the magazine Burda be much better than others? Instructions
 • correct. Very concise but without errors. Patterns
 • perfectly drawn, measured and thought out. You have noted that tested.
 • finishes (views, linings, etc.) and suggested sewing techniques work very well. They are easy and also make the end result is good. In this ever stray I tried and I've always gone wrong.
 • leaf decal patterns very well, and each piece has all the necessary information (number of patterns, thread management, brands openings, etc)
 • Includes cutting plane to make better use of material, and the diagram of the pattern pieces.

*** What Makes Burda Style, in my opinion, the best pattern magazine available in Spain?
Straightforward instructions'
 • Perfectly Drafted and tested patterns
 • Well Chosen details and finishing techniques.
 • Pattern sheets
 • Are a maze But Once You Get Used To It they're easy to trace and include all the information you need. Cutting
 • layout diagrams and the pattern pieces included with the Instructions.
crude futures Vintage: Vintage Future crude
The Burda is a monthly need, as my cafelito mornings. But there are others who buy but not so regularly, mainly because their quality is far from Burda. Namely: ***
I know There Are Others English pattern magazine for kids, very classic in style and remove
popular here, pero Unfortunately there'sa big gap in quality Compared with
Other brands pattern. These Are some examples:

Patterns for Children Magazine.
magazine patterns began as a magazine designer patterns with a very good models but has gradually been declining in quality, to the extent that the latest numbers or include patterns that include designers or good. The instructions are incomplete, parts of the diagrams do not coincide with leaf patterns and finishes unrefined. Edited a special children that I do not know when it comes out I do not know whether to be classical or Ikks very modern type. Is unpredictable and acknowledge that I have stopped buying it, but if you have numbers of the 90 gold cloth store them as it does because those are the good guys. ***
Patterns Magazines for kids.
It's Well Known Within the sewing blog That community Patterns magazine has lost
STI status as one of the best pattern magazines. It published eleven
patterns from renown designers
But now the quality of the patterns is an issue. They Used To
publish a kids issue with designs from Ikks or Other English names.
Mirror Magazine.

Mirror Mirror is a English fashion magazine child with classic style patterns. Edited 4 times a year and each issue includes several models of dresses, shirts, shorts for children, and some dupes and skirts with hoods. I know that sells more designs by employers, because that is his weak point. To sew with patterns and instructions for this journal is essential to know about sewing, or you'll end up with Jean Paul Gaultier type pieces in china copy version.

time ago I contacted the editor by mail to congratulate him on the idea of taking a English magazine market patterns, and also happened to know that moms fat drop sudan beginners to make anything resembling to the photo. I remember the case of a mother who asked for help to an expert seamstress because all the necks of the patterns of the magazine were you up. We look at photos and all necks in the number of winter are up "?!

They said they are working on the instructions so a team approved for the Mirror because I think they are doing a great job and I hope to improve with each issue. ***
There'sa magazine that's growing in popularity named Mirror Mirror. Their very classic designs Are Many mums and I know Who sew with Them. But they're really poor in quality and clarity of instructions. I know they're working hard to Improve on this, and I really wish They Do Because the team behind Mirror is very dedicated and Deserve the best.
American Oliver and S patterns

Finally I know there are some magazines basket type patterns including skirts, romper suits and a dress, plus all the paraphernalia to the basket. They are usually very simple models are sewing and well explained, although there is little variety.

I also know that there are brave that cut hair, no patterns or anything, but that is another dimension for me ...
seamstress

Apart from the odd pattern in Some knitting magazines, There isn't a lot more to choose from. I Remain loyal to Oliver and S patterns and Japanese books, and of course Burda, MacCalls and company, pero
Is There Any Other kids of magazines I Should Know?

Non demotivated tidbits much faster, especially with the whole idea of spending 3 euros viyela meter that I have accumulated in winter.
As I am also curious googling I have entertained on Viyela or viyelita as Marcelino always calls the fabric. And I've found interesting facts, such as the name Viyella is a registered trademark since 1894 and is a British fashion brand.

know for its use in children's clothes, and is easy to find at any fabric store. Its composition is a blend of cotton and wool, so it's so warm. Has fallen, is sewn very well and holds a good ironing. Shrinks in the wash so it is advisable to soak before cutting. ***
In Spain is the fabric of choice for Children and babywear. Any fabric shop stocks a nice selection of prints, Usually small flowers, polka dots or paisley type. I buy it at 3euros per Metre so it's really affordable. It's cozy and washes well, perfect for my kids.

Many of the shirts of the British army officers were made of Viyela for durability, lightness and softness.
Since the mid-twentieth century Viyela fabric is polularizó as children's clothing, shirts and pajamas. Photo here.

*** This is a dress I made for my daughter while we where Surrounded by viruses, so let's name it the Paracetamol dress. The pattern is from Burda Style magazine Nov. 2010. I added the ruffle to the sleeves and changed the neckline to make it smaller. It's quite a basic pattern That I love and plan to make Many versions this spring.
